—– “Amulet” —-
(To my warlike-friend: Poetess Missy Hanny)

Someday,
before day dances
and night sings
I shall run home
to your hut
singing:
hosanna, hosanna, hosanna—–

Then,
I shall bow
before you
holding my calabash
I shall pour you palm wine
and ask for your tongue’s sip

But I know
you shall let your shadow
fall on my nostrils
ceasing my breath
before day could resurrect
from the belly of night’s charm
