THE CASE OF GAMBIA VIS-A-VIS NEO-COLONIALISM
Gambian President wants to implement a policy that will see the country dump English for a local language.
“We no longer subscribe to the belief that for you to be in government you should speak English. We should speak our language”. President Yahya Jammeh
Gambia is also planning to withdraw from commonwealth saying it would never be a member of a neo-colonial institution.
I think from recent happenings in Afrika in terms of decision, the future seems better. In recent times most Afrika countries have embarked on a journey that deem that indeed Afrika should decide for herself.
From the legislations of laws to quench the flames of homosexuality and other decisions taken to see the fordwardness of Afrika is quite laudable.
I believe when Kwame Nkrumah talked of Neo-colonialismin his book, “Neo-colonialism, the last stage of imperialism”, he meant Afrikans eschewing all forms of tendencies which still ties them to the elements of colonialism.
The decision by the Gambia President His Excellency Yahya Jammeh to use local language as a first medium of communication and to break the strings which still binds her to her colonial master_the British is by far a tremendous and laudable step which all other Afrikan nations seeking for true independence and an end to all shades of colonialism must emulate.
Afrika must work!!
